Scarlet sage
Scarlet sage is a common name for Salvia splendens, a flowering plant in the mint family. It is native to Brazil, but has been widely cultivated and naturalized in other regions. It has bright red flowers that are tubular and arranged in spikes. The flowers attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. Scarlet sage is a tender perennial that can survive winter in zones 9-11, or can be grown as an annual in zones 4-8. It grows best in full sun, well-drained soil, and moderate water. It can be used as an ornamental plant for beds, borders, containers, and cut flowers.
