Ipomoea tricolor

Ipomoea tricolor

Ipomoea tricolor is a species of flowering plant in the Convolvulaceae family, commonly known as Mexican morning glory or heavenly blue morning glory. It is native to the tropics of the Americas, and widely cultivated and naturalised elsewhere. Ipomoea tricolor is an annual or perennial vine that grows to 2–4 m (7–13 ft) tall, with heart-shaped, spirally arranged leaves and trumpet-shaped, two-lipped flowers. The flowers are usually blue with a white to yellow center, and have five petals and numerous yellow stamens. The flowers open only in bright sunlight and close at night or on cloudy days. The fruits are small, dry capsules that contain many tiny, black seeds. Ipomoea tricolor is a popular ornamental plant for trellises, arches, pergolas, or containers, and produces a showy display of flowers from summer to frost.
